How I Built a Simple Raffle App for Holiday or Event Giveaways
Every year around the holidays, companies like to spread a little cheer with raffles. The problem? Running them can be a hassle—messy spreadsheets, paper slips, lost raffle tickets, or someone pulling names out of a hat. Not exactly fun or fair.
That’s why I built Raffle Wiz, a web app designed to make company raffles smooth, simple, and a little more exciting.
The Idea
I wanted a tool that:
- Could handle big lists of people and prizes without manual juggling.
- Made the drawing process fair and transparent.
- Kept track of who won what so we wouldn’t repeat prizes or lose track.
- Felt fun—like spinning a slot machine, not filling out an Excel formula.
How It Works
- Load your lists: Add employees and prizes one by one or upload them from a CSV.
- Set up prizes: Mark special items as “Grand Prizes” if you want them saved for the finale.
- Spin the wheel: The app randomly matches a prize with a person. Everyone gets to watch the wheel spin, which builds the excitement.
- Track history: Every winner is saved automatically, and you can export the results to a CSV for easy reporting or announcements.
Building It
The core of the app is pretty simple:
- A prize list and a people list, both managed in the app or via CSV upload.
- A randomizer that pairs one prize with one person at the click of a button.
- A history log that saves results and shows whether it was a regular or grand prize.
I designed it with a clean, minimal interface so anyone can run a raffle with zero training.
